We are currently booking over 50s for their first dose of the AstraZeneca Vaccine. If you are over 50, we invite you to please call the surgery to book your appointment at St Charles Hospital or the Violet Melchett Centre.

We know many people have concerns regarding the COVID-19 AstraZeneca Vaccine and blood clotting.

Please see this information on safety from the government 'UK regulator confirms that people should continue to receive the COVID-19 vaccine AstraZeneca.'  "Following suspensions by some countries of the COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca over suspected blood clots, the MHRA confirms that the benefits of the vaccine in preventing COVID-19 far outweigh the risks. People should still go and get their COVID-19 vaccine when asked to do so".

And also this article from the European Medicines Agency. 'COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca: benefits still outweigh the risks despite possible link to rare blood clots with low blood platelets'
"These are rare cases – around 20 million people in the UK and EEA had received the vaccine as of March 16 and EMA had reviewed only 7 cases of blood clots in multiple blood vessels (disseminated intravascular coagulation, DIC) and 18 cases of CVST. A causal link with the vaccine is not proven, but is possible and deserves further analysis."

Today is National No Smoking Day.

10 Mar 2021

The last year has been difficult for many of us. Stress and concern about our health is on the rise. For smokers this has pulled them in two directions. On the one hand, the chances of smokers successfully quitting are has high as they’ve ever been. On the other, smokers experiencing stress and mental distress are more likely to be smoking more. This No Smoking Day we want to take the opportunity to inform smokers that quitting can be less stressful than they fear and can ultimately improve their sense of wellbeing. We all of us have less control over our lives than we’d like at the moment, but smokers can take some positive control on No Smoking Day. We can support smokers to cease the moment and look forward to happier smokefree future.

For #NoSmokingDay 2021 we’re celebrating the mental health benefits of quitting. Withdrawal can be stressful but ultimately ex-smokers are happier and healthier. For advice on make quitting easier visit www.nhs.uk/smokefree Research shows that smokers who quit might experience short term stress but smokers who quit for 6 weeks or more show signs of improved mental as well as physical health. Start your quit attempt today and join the millions who have quit for good. #TodayIsTheDay.

14 Dec 2020

Firstly, we would like to say that we do appreciate all the enquiries and interest we have been receiving from all of you. We are all excited to hear that there is real progress on a Covid vaccine and that this should improve the quality of life for all of us.

We know that you, like us, are struggling with the confines imposed upon us all due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Everyone is trying to make the best of the situation and, as a practice, we are committed to caring for you in the best possible way whilst keeping both you and our team safe.

To keep you as informed as possible, we will update these messages frequently as we become aware of more information from NHS England:

  • Some hospitals have now received the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid vaccine and have started to vaccinate patients. The hospitals are sending out invitations to the patients they are able to vaccinate.
  • The vaccine will be made available for groups of general practices and will initially be delivered from central sites such as St Charles Hospital.
  • We are waiting to hear the delivery date of local vaccines which is expected at the end of December 2020.
  • We have to follow strict government guidelines which tell us which group of patients to vaccinate first.
  • We will contact you if you are eligible for a vaccine when we know what date the vaccine is available for you.
  • It is essential, if you are given a vaccine, that you return for the second part of the vaccination on the date that you are advised to.
  • Please do not telephone us to ask when or if you are going to get a Covid Vaccine. We will contact you individually if and when you are invited to have one and will keep this website updated with as much information as we can.
  • We have many patients to vaccinate so we ask for your patience as we work through this vaccination programme which will last well into 2021.

Meanwhile, we all need to keep to the advice of hand-washing, face masks and social distancing but we all look forward to the time when we will return to life as normal.
